Apple Themed Recipes

In last week’s blog post, it was determined in a small survey that apple cider was more favorable than pumpkin spice. So this week’s post is dedicated to all things apple related. Below, are a list of easy recipes you can make with apples that are perfect for fall time. All of the recipes are family recipes that have been passed down.

Crockpot Applesauce

One of the easiest apple related recipes to make is crockpot applesauce. You will need 12 apples, peeled and cored, half a cup of sugar, a teaspoon of cinnamon, or more depending on how strong you want the flavor, half a cup of water and a tablespoon of lemon juice. All you do is cut the apples into chunks and put them in the crockpot. Then add in the lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon and water, in that order. Cook it on high for about three to four hours and then enjoy!

Baked Apples

This recipe is also very easy, and it takes less than an hour. All you need is four large apples, four tablespoons of granulated sugar, four teaspoons of butter and one to two tablespoons of cinnamon. Core the apples and place them in an ungreased baking dish. Place one tablespoon of sugar, one teaspoon of butter and 1/4 of a teaspoon of cinnamon inside each apple. If you desire a stronger cinnamon flavor, you can sprinkle some on top of the apples after filling. To keep the apples from drying up, pour about 1/2 to one inch of water into the pan. Cook at 375 degrees for 35 minutes.

Note: To prevent the apples from splitting, peel back about an inch wide piece of the skin from the middle of each apple.

Apple Crisp

This recipe is my favorite recipe, especially during fall and the holidays. You will need about four cups of sliced apples, a 2/3 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 a cup of flour, 1/2 a cup of oats, 2/3 cup of butter, one tablespoon of cinnamon and one tablespoon of nutmeg. Grease the pan and place apple slices in the pan. Mix all of the dry ingredients in a bowl. Then sprinkle the mixture over the apples, making sure it is evenly coated. Bake at 375 degrees for about 30 minutes. It is best if you eat it warm.

Notes:

  1. You can add less or more of the spices depending on how strong you want the spice flavor to be.
  2. This dessert pairs great with vanilla ice cream if you are looking for a little something to add on.

Apple Pie

Since apple pie is more complicated and time consuming, this recipe will be posted by itself later in the week so don’t forget to follow and check back!
